We bought this toaster about two months ago, after much research. Our old one was a simple, cheap one from Sunbeam, which lasted about ten years until the lever for toast broke.
I never really wanted a “convection” toaster, but I decided to give it a try because I thought it might save energy when baking. It actually does a very fast job at that, much more efficient than the regular oven we used before.
I used the broiler just once so far and it works well.
Toast is very good: crunchy on the outside, moist inside (but that depends on taste). One gripe is with the knobs, which are hard to grab. The design of the knob is especially annoying in the timer, because it just sort of slides to the desired time, there’s no way of precisely selecting the position, like a good stereo knob would. We haven’t quite found the best spot on the timer for the perfect toast, I’m having to rely on visual clues and often just take the toast out before the timer rings.
The tray is easy to clean and slides out conveniently.
The hooks on the door hinges that make the rack slide out make it difficult to close the door completely - we decided to fold ours in and not use them, so the door closes correctly.
Be diligent when shopping for this item, prices vary widely from place to place and you may overpay.

I found this to be “hands down” , the best toaster oven in this price range, and I’ve owned a few over the years.

I bought this model to replace an old Black & Decker toaster oven and didn’t expect perfection, but this model seems to be worse than my previous, cheaper model. Making toast in this oven is a guessing game. The first batch of toast requires using a higher toast setting to factor in warm-up time, but the next batch will burn if you use the same setting. You have to watch your toasts yourself, which makes the toast feature pretty much useless. Also, toasting is uneven, half of the toast will be white while the edges will be nicely toasted (see picture I posted).

I do not recommend this oven.

I’ve read other reviews on this toaster and figured that installation couldn’t be as difficult as they say. I still had to make modifications. Don’t bother trying to find longer screws, Metric M5 screws longer than the ones that come with it can’t be found. I looked at several places and online, NONE. My cabinet has decorative trim on the lower edge and is empty on the bottom side. First I had to fill the space with two layers of 5/8″ plywood, so the bottom of the cabinet was even with the trim on the outside. Next, I used the bracket as a template, marking through the screw holes. I drilled the holes from the outside. Then I drilled through from the inside with a large bit, deep enough so the head of the screw would recess about 3/4″ and the threads of the screw would extend far enough to attach the bracket. No need to use spacers and this feels more solid. As others also say, it would be nice if they had included a tray. I kept the one that came with my previous model from 1987. I’m glad I picked the one with the digital controls, It works nice and seems well built.

All of the negative reviews are correct — spacers fall off, bolts too short, template not adequate. In addition to that, the Applica customer service (at least the one I talked to about this appliance) left a lot to be desired. The upshot was — go buy your own bolts and figure out how to make the spacers work. Fastenal has the bolts (5M80) which are not expesive unless you have to special order them (I did), and I solved the spacer problem by glueing the proper number of spacers together and then using double-sided tape to hold them to the bottom of the cabinet while one of us held the appliance and the other tightened the bolts. I also have the can opener and the coffee maker, neither of which were difficult to install. I can’t believe that this manufacturer cannot find an engineer that can simplify this installation process and modify the template so you don’t have to stand on your head to install the items. I solved that problem by tracing the template on the back, and working from the top. Not a good experience…… After all the trouble I went through to install this thing, I just hope it will last as long as the one I bought twenty years ago………

We had the el cheapo Black & Decker toaster oven for about 4 or 5 years and it served us well until the temp. knob went a little wonky and wouldn’t work. We thought we’d go a little fancier for our next toaster oven without going Cuisinart fancy. We got this Oster at Target because it seemed like what we wanted - big mistake!

Our old toaster over just had a lever for toasting. On this one, you have to turn the knob and pick a number of minutes to toast. Somehow I always get it wrong and my toast is charred or undercooked. I miss the lever!

If the rack is in the top position it’s REALLY close to the top elements and it’s really easy to burn your hand if you reach in to grab your toast or whatever. I have burned my hand a few times. Never had this problem with the old one.

And even with the rack on the top slot, I find this burns the bottoms of my son’s chicken nuggets.

I hate this thing. I can’t give it 0 stars because it does work, but I think I liked the old cheapie B&D a lot more. My biggest gripe is the toasting - my husband says lets just get a normal toaster, too, then but I don’t want another appliance on my counters. I just wish this thing would die so we could replace it.

I read lots and lots of reviews of toaster ovens before I bought. But it seems that very few people out there like the toaster oven they have. The ones with the highest ratings were only available online - and in some cases the shipping was almost as much as the toaster!

I got this one at a local store - on sale. It is a nice compact size for the counter, yet seems to have plenty of space inside. Toasts very even (several settings - chose medium the first time and worked perfect). It has a timer so there is a bell when the toast is finished.

I also like the fact that when you use the oven, you also can set a timer. My previous one did not have this and many times I would forget to shut it off and it would run for hours (very dangerous).

I am very pleased with this toaster oven overall — it does the job it is supposed to and is a great value for the money.
